History

The Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable and educational association to assist the agencies that provide services to the senior population with a mechanism to jointly address issues that impact the population they serve.

The Nevada Senior Corps Association was formed in response to a proposal to utilize the Tobacco Settlement Funds for reducing the shortfall in the State budget in 2008. The Settlement Funds are one of the major sources of funds for the various programs that are designed to keep from institutionalizing seniors.

It soon became apparent that there was a broader need to provide a mechanism to assist the agencies that provide independent living alternatives to the senior and adults with disabilities populations. The organizations, as well as seniors needed another information channel that focused on the actions at the federal, state and local levels that impact them or their clients.

As a result, NSCA over has completed various studies that focused on improving the way the State delivered services to agencies; held workshops with State Legislators to inform them about the services they fund and regulate; created the Personal Care Agency Advisory Committee; and joined with Nevada Senior Advocates on issues NSCA identified that needed to be pursued through the Legislature.

To provide a better link to the seniors and adults with disabilities that are served by the in-home care agencies, NSCA has created a blog that will be kept current with information about the activities of the Association. A quarterly newsletter will also be published on a quarterly basis, starting in 2012.
